Revocation Application to Revoke CUPE’s Right to Bargaining
The Issue
As an Air Canada Flight Attendant, I am deeply disappointed with CUPE for presenting a Tentative Agreement (TA) where we only have the power to vote on the wage portion of our contract. This action has effectively stripped us of our voice, replacing it with a narrative crafted by the union that dictates what we should be grateful for. It's not the hardworking individuals within CUPE that I wish to severe ties with; it's the union itself, especially CUPE National, which has manipulated us as pawns in their overarching agenda.
I feel used and betrayed. We were never CUPE’s priority. They exploited us, claiming to fight for our cause while encouraging us into an unlawful strike that served their greater interests. They made grand gestures, tearing up papers and swearing to go to jail for us, promising to liquidate assets to support our cause. Then they abandoned us when their cause was underway. They offered us a TA to ratify, one that was mostly agreed upon even before we picketed in an unlawful strike. Now they claim the illegal strike is what is preventing them from allowing us to vote in the TA’s entirety. Shame on them for their lies, and shame on me for believing their promises. NO MORE!
AC FAs deserve a union that truly represents their interests and priorities, not one that bends to its own agenda at our expense. It’s time to revoke CUPE’s control over our contracts and either seek representation that listens to what is important to us, or else we can organize and represent ourselves.
We need 5260 current AC FAs to sign this petition. Together, we can ensure our voices are truly heard and not muzzled by ‘locked in’ clauses they say is to our benefit. Read your TA. They say no concessions were made and they also say no concessions were made of monetary value. It’s not just the pay that’s important, it’s the respect for our work conditions too.
While we appreciate everyone’s support, please sign only if you are a current AC FA. When it’s time to submit the application, each of you will need to sign the document declaring you are a current member and your individual confidential statement. Guidance will be provided.
Remember, magic number is 5260 to proceed. We have a small window of time to apply as when we have a CA, we will have more restrictions and it will be more difficult to oust a union.
