I'm just a fan who longs for the golden era of football gaming. The vibrancy and genuine excitement brought by NFL 2K has been a missing piece of the gaming world since EA Sports approached the NFL for an exclusive license in 2005, edging out the underdog 2K brand. Since then, it's felt like EA Sports has been resting on their laurels; the passion and innovation, so evident in their work prior to 2009, seems to have taken a backseat.

One specific feature I miss from 2K's versions is the 'eras' concept, one of many customization features that heightened the gaming experience. The exploration of football’s rich history, shifting strategies, and evolving equipment was a unique experience that hasn't been replicated.

Historically, competition has been shown to drive improvement and innovation, a fact borne out when the smaller 2k brand was taking on EA Sports (Bamberger, Michael & Tedesco, Danielle, J. Prod. Innov. Manag.). It's reasonable to expect that reviving NFL 2K could reinvigorate the market, sparking the competition to generate more engaging, high-quality football video games. If nothing else, it would offer all us fans a much-needed alternative in the football gaming landscape.
