The Issue

Mowbray Park pond in Sunderland holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I have countless memories of spending sunny days by the pond, watching the wildlife and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. However, today, walking past the same pond fills me with sadness. It has become an eyesore, neglected and abandoned. It's distressing to see a place that once brought joy to many unravel at the sight of decay and neglect.

Over the years, the pond has become an environmental concern and a source of unpleasant odours. The stagnant water no longer supports the vibrant ecosystem it once did. The decline in the pond's condition is not only impacting the aesthetics of our beautiful Mowbray Park but is also causing distress to the park's visitors and the local community.

Sunderland City Council has a responsibility to its residents to maintain public spaces, and Mowbray Park pond should be no exception. By improving and maintaining the pond, we can restore this historic space to its former glory. Revamping the pond can create new opportunities for community gatherings, educational purposes, and wildlife conservation efforts.

We propose that Sunderland City Council develop a clear, actionable plan to address the issues at Mowbray Park pond. This should include regular maintenance, cleaning, and perhaps even enhancements such as adding plants to support local wildlife. Reviving the pond will not only enhance the park's appeal but also contribute to a healthier ecosystem and provide a serene environment for all to enjoy.

Join us in urging Sunderland City Council to take immediate action to restore Mowbray Park pond. Let us bring back the beauty and life to this cherished spot. Kindly sign this petition to show your support for this cause and help make a positive change in our community.
