Papyrus was a UK suicide-prevention charity dedicated to preventing suicide among children and young people.

On 7th September 2026, Papyrus entered administration.

The charity has closed and its services have been suspended.

Hopeline247 provided 24/7 telephone support, text support, email support, webchat.

Papyrus provided national suicide prevention training across schools, universities, professionals, organisations and communities.

It developed a substantial library of suicide-prevention resources and educational materials, many of which are now at risk of being lost or becoming inaccessible.

The loss of these services and expertise will place additional pressure on other suicide-prevention and mental-health organisations that are already working to meet demand.

What we are calling for
We are calling for the urgent restoration of specialist suicide-prevention services for children and young people in the UK.

This should include:

• The restoration of a specialist 24/7 service equivalent to HOPELINE247, providing accessible support by telephone and digital channels.
• The preservation of Papyrus's specialist expertise and workforce, with former staff and volunteers supported to continue this vital work wherever possible.
• The preservation and transfer of Papyrus's suicide-prevention training and resources, so that decades of specialist knowledge are not lost.
• A sustainable, long-term funding model for specialist young suicide prevention, ensuring that essential services can continue without being placed at risk by financial instability.

Papyrus may have closed, but the need for its work has not.
