The Issue

For decades, attending the Wilson County TN State Fair has been a cherished tradition. It's always been more than just an event; it's been a celebration of our community roots, a place where we can connect with our local heritage and learn about the traditions that make Wilson County unique. But recently, it's been disheartening to see the fair shifting away from its core essence. This year, it felt more commercial, with the vibrant presence of local agriculture, 4-H and FFA groups, educational booths, The Birthing Barn, and local nonprofits noticeably diminished or missing. These elements once painted a rich tapestry of our community spirit, and their absence was keenly felt.

The emphasis seemed to be more on rides and commercial attractions rather than the educational experiences that draw visitors in and immerse them in the traditions of our area. This loss of personal touch, like the beloved campfire cooking, local vendor showcases, and, importantly, educational opportunities about our community's agricultural roots, is a true disappointment. These aspects not only educate but also inspire generations to appreciate and carry forward our local legacy.

To revitalize the fair and bring back its community-focused essence, we urge the fair organizers to intentionally include more local agriculture exhibits, educational booths, and spaces for local nonprofits and small businesses. By partnering with local  organizations, the fair can once again reflect the diversity and vibrancy of Wilson County life.

Please join in signing this petition to restore our fair to its roots, celebrating and reflecting the heart of Wilson County.
