Revitalize the Hutchinson Mall: More Stores, Food Courts, and Bars Needed

Revitalize the Hutchinson Mall: More Stores, Food Courts, and Bars Needed
The Issue
As a long-time resident and patron of Hutchinson, the local mall is more than just a shopping complex to me - it was a place where I spent my time, built memories, and found my sense of community. Unfortunately, since the mid-2000s, I've witnessed the dreaded decline of the mall, leading to there being barely any stores or other offerings left.
The Hutchinson mall was once a bustling hub, filled with a variety of stores, eateries and communal spaces, but its gradual decay over the years has left our community with a void. Our mall’s diminishing momentum isn't an isolated incident; across the nation, thousands of malls have closed their doors due to various factors. The Pew Research Center reports that due to the rise in online shopping, approximately 15% of U.S. malls will fail or be converted into non-retail space within the next 10 years.
However, there is also evidence indicating that revitalized malls, offering not just stores but also food courts, bars, and other community spaces, have managed to attract customers back. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has found that malls providing a wide span of offerings report a 41% increase in communities' patronage.
Therefore, this is a call to action to the Hutchinson Mall administration and the City Council to invest in the revitalization of our mall. We urge you to increase the variety of retail stores, introduce more food courts, and consider adding bars, thereby transforming our Hutchinson Mall into a vibrant community hub once again. I think and H&M would be good to add to the mall , A Macy’s,Ragstock, maybe an American Eagle . Put some good restaurants or at least a good food court and also like a Starbucks or a Caribou or both . That would be one of the great ways to attract people to come back to shop or just hand out at that mall. It has potential it just needs to be revived.
Please sign this petition to support the revitalization of our cherished Hutchinson Mall. Let's bring back the enjoyment and community spirit the mall once fostered in us.
