Hello all petition supporters,

I wish I could say the City of Toronto was taking our concerns regarding The Toronto Humber Yacht Club simply ignoring the fact their lease has technically come to an end and simply putting in their docks as usual in the spring.

Please email the following individuals in the city to let them know we are watching and their lack of meaningful action is being noticed:

Mohamed Osman <Mohamed.Osman@toronto.ca>, Councillor Morley <Councillor_Morley@toronto.ca>, Luula Hassan <Luula.Hassan3@toronto.ca>, Karyn Lau <parkbusiness@toronto.ca>

Below are my emails to Park Business.

To whom it may concern at Park Business,

I was directed to your office by Mohamed Osman with my inquiry regarding what is to become of THYC.

My name is Jason Sills and I have been quite vocal in my support of THYC having their lease renewal request rejected by the City of Toronto.

Since 2019 the club has  become a blight on the shores of the Humber River as well as its members becoming a threat to other river uses on the water as well as community members off of the water.

I was overjoyed to hear the City intends to end the lease and thrilled to hear the City intends to have no boat traffic on the property in '26.

I'm less than thrilled with the lack of visible actions being taken by the City to ensure its intent becomes reality, other than posting two signs at the entrance of the property which club members are ignoring.

This vacuum of visible concrete action on the part of the City has allowed THYCs leadership team to convince members the club will operate as usual this summer.

The members have been informed the clubs lawyer has brought a complaint to the "Ethics Committed" and has successfully argued the city acted inappropriately in rejecting the lease request and will therefore be allowed to remain.

As the club has operated with impunity since 2019, it's understandable that members might not believe they must vacate the property as the signs alone would indicate, especially as the signs do not include a "by when date".

It would be greatly appreciated if someone from your office would contact me to let me know if the city intends to take any concrete action to force THYC to vacate 101 Humber Valley Road before the '26 boating season begins.

Thank you for you

Hello Karyn,

Thank you for your acknowledgement of receiving my email last week.

As the week is drawing to a close, I have still not received a reply outlining how the city intends to ensure THYC & their members remove their equipment and belongings in a timely fashion.

To date, it seems the only actions the city has taken have been performative at best:
-One letter of non-renewal delivered in June '25, which the club leadership and members ignored.
-Two signs without a "by when date" posted at the entrance of the club, which the club leadership and members are also ignoring.

Since the docks were taken in at the end of the '25 season:
-not a single boat has been removed from the property
-not a single gazebo has been dismantled and removed from the shore of the Humber River
-not a single floating dock or any other piece of THYC equipment been removed from the property

As I indicated in my first email, in the vacuum created by the lack of any measurable actions being taken on the part of the city, THYC's leadership team has made it clear to the members the club will operate as usual for the '26 season.

I and many in the community were thrilled to hear the club was issued the letter of non-renewal but without actions to bar members from accessing the property and the club leadership plowing ahead with plans to operate this season, it seems to me the docks will be put in the water in a few months time and if/when that happens we all know the city will do nothing to bring the '26 to an early end.

I would very much like to hear from you with some explanation of how the city intends to ensure our fears of the club simply ignoring the city (as it has done since 2019 with impunity) and opening up the club will be avoided.

Thank you again for your time and attention,
