It would seem our efforts have all been worth while!!!!
It's a small step but at least it's a public declaration by the city THYC can't ignore as they continue to pretend they still hold control of the property.
I'd like to send out a huge thank to Councilor Morley and her staff. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes and her efforts are very much appreciated!!!
I can't say I feel bad for the current members of the club as they chose in 2019 to elect a thug and bully to represent them as their commodore. From the moment he took over the club swiftly set course on a massive expansionist agenda against the community's wishes, against TRCA's wishes and against the City's wishes.
Those members must have been aware of the bullying and threats their leaders made when they were confronted by community members and yet they still voted that leadership team in consistently up to and including at their latest AGM.
In the spring of '25 that leadership team appointed a strawman commodore to present a gentler more conciliatory face to the public but it was painfully obvious he and no authority to actually enact any of his stated compromises. Needless to say it did not take long for the club members to once again opt to have a thug and bully represent them.
It's been clear for years the club turned a blind eye to their responsibility to be good stewards of the environment, instead opting to be a party zone for JetSkiers who care little for the environment and not at all for public safety.
I have a feeling THYC would have lost their lease based entirely on their actions and behavior since 2019 but I do think by raising our voices in support of ending THYC's lease we helped shore up the city's courage and commitment to doing the right thing.
So thanks to all of you for all of your work and support over the past year!!!!
