Hello to all petition supporters,
It seems our efforts are bearing fruit!
From what I hear the Toronto Humber Yacht Club received a letter of non-renewal on June 30, 2025 letting them know the City of Toronto was not going to renew their lease at 101 Humber Valley Road.
That being said, the club is working overtime to try to clean up the property in efforts to have city staff set aside their recommendation to end the club's lease.
It's vitally important that we keep up the pressure on city officials and staff to ensure they understand the community is diametrically opposed to the club remaining on the property. As the old saying goes, "It ain't over till it's over."
It's clear from the club's actions over the better part of the last decade that any changes they may undertake will only be cosmetic and be the bare minimum necessary to appear to evolve into a more sustainable operation.
It should also be noted the majority of the club's members believe they have been good environmental stewards of the public land they were privileged to occupy. This in spite of the fact they have covered over the vast majority of green space with hardscape while clearing cutting woodland at the edges of the property to increase boat storage. I'm pointing this out because no matter what cosmetic changes the club makes over the short term, the basic sense of entitlement among the club's members will guarantee even more environmental destruction should the club be allowed to operate for another 20 years.
So please keep sharing this petition to gather more support. And again, if you have the time please email the stakeholders (email address above) sharing your desire to see THYC removed from the shores of the Humber River.
Thanks again for your time and support!!!
