Revitalize the Amtrak P42DC GE Genesis Locomotives After Retirement

The Issue

The P42DC GE Genesis has become an irreplaceable part of the American railroad culture. As a true symbol of Amtrak, its retirement from active service warrants more respect and attention than it is currently being given. I, like many other train enthusiasts, hold these artifacts in high esteem. Their retirement, without preservation plans in place, is unacceptable.

These locomotives are synonymous to the spirit of travelling through America, and their disappearance from the tracks is too great a loss to bear. As the locomotives face retirement, Amtrak should seek to honor them in a fitting manner. I propose that Amtrak gift some units to commuter railroads such as Metra and Metrolink to ensure their continued use and the preservation of a piece of our shared travel history.

In addition to the gift to commuter railroads, it is imperative that at least two of these locomotives be preserved at museums or heritage railroads. This ensures not only the remembrance of their role in our travel history, but also brings joy and nostalgia to those who have fond memories journeying on these locomotives.

This cause is deeper than it appears - it's about paying tribute to these iconic locomotives that have become a symbol of American travel. It is about preserving a part of our collective memory and cherishing the values these locomotives represent.

If you, like me, believe that these beautiful locomotives deserve a second life and a place of honor where others can marvel at their grandeur and importance, please sign and share this petition. Help us preserve the legacy of the Amtrak P42DC GE Genesis locomotives.
