Revitalize School Safety in MCPS: A Call to Action

The Issue

In recent years, the safety of American students in school has come under question. As we witness the rise of gun violence, online threats, and more, it is essential to reconsider how we ensure student security in our schools. MCPS strongly values the input and opinions of the students they serve. Especially given the increasing uncertainties surrounding our safety in schools, we believe it is imperative for us, as a student body, to speak up for our safety.

With recent security threats, including incidents like weapons being brought into schools such as Walter Johnson HS and bomb threats at Montgomery Blair HS, Rockville HS, Albert Einstein HS, and Springbrook HS, MCPS students have had enough. We are urgently calling on our leaders to develop adaptive solutions to address the ongoing threats that MCPS students face daily.

We urge you to join our cause and advocate for the necessary changes to the current safety policies in MCPS schools. You can support our cause by:

  1. Signing this petition.
  2. Testifying before the MCPS Board of Education to highlight the urgent need for improved safety measures in our schools.
  3. Following and keeping up with @samithesmob and @mcpssac to track the progress of this petition and its corresponding resolution.
