Senator Gillibrand, along with other Democratic senators, have recognized the value of budget leverage, and they are using it to protect subsidies that make health insurance costs affordable for millions of Americans. There are better systems available, but these are not the alternative on offer from Republicans, instead it is cruelty. 

Democrats holding the line on access to life-saving healthcare, cheaper preventive measures over expensive treatments, and the subsidies that grant that access have shown their willingness to exert available power.

For this reason, Senator Gillibrand has reasserted her claim to DSCC Chair.

FORMER CONTENTION: Remove Senator Gillibrand as DSCC Chair

Senator Chuck Schumer granted permission and elicited votes for Republican spending, and some short-sighted Democratic colleagues followed suit.

Senator Gillibrand's support for unmitigated Republican spending cuts has marked a regrettable milestone in her political journey. These votes have blurred the lines of differentiation between Democrats and Republicans complicating campaigns for people on the ground, which would be bad enough for a regular senator, but presents a different issue for one charged to lead the party into the majority through the collective campaign coffers of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

This malpractice and miscalculation shows Senator Gillibrand is unfit to head the DSCC, asking for money from Democratic voters while supporting the GOP spending bill that the organization characterized, before the betrayal of some Democratic Senators as "spending more tax dollars on handouts to their ultra-wealthy friends and mega corporations that get rich by keeping prices high – while hardworking Americans pay the price."

According to New York Times reporting, even the "American Federation of Government Employees, the largest labor union representing federal workers, whose members would be furloughed during a government shutdown, opposed the stopgap bill."

In light of this, we call for the ousting of Senator Gillibrand as DSCC Chair. With this mindset at the helm of the DSCC, the future of Democrats in Congress becomes more precarious. Let's unite, make our voices heard, and call for her removal from this key role.
