Revise The WSSC Project Plan For The Radnor WaterTowers

Revise The WSSC Project Plan For The Radnor WaterTowers
The Issue
In 2022, WSSC (Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission) introduced a project aimed at rehabilitating the standpipes and water tanks situated off Radnor Road and Vernon Place. This endeavor was meant to address existing infrastructure issues and optimize the community's water supply network. However, the residents expressed their concerns and provided constructive feedback regarding the project's initial proposal.
Despite this comprehensive input, the recent revision of the WSSC plan has largely dismissed the community’s feedback. Alarmingly, the industrial footprint is now even larger, with structures from the county and cellular companies encroaching upon property lines. This revised plan involves the removal of 32 trees, significantly transforming the area from a green space into an industrial zone, thus undermining the community's aesthetic and environmental values.
The community values its natural surroundings and is deeply concerned about the potential loss of green space and increased industrialization that this plan brings. The removal of trees will not only diminish the natural beauty of the area but also reduce air quality and increase noise levels, impacting residents' quality of life. It is crucial for WSSC to recognize these detrimental effects and actively engage with the community to ensure a reasonable compromise is reached.
We urge WSSC to revisit its proposal and genuinely incorporate the community’s suggestions, which include retaining some of the green spaces by reducing the number of trees to be cut down, repositioning structures to maintain comfortable distances from property lines, and limiting the expansion of industrial facilities. Such changes would demonstrate WSSC's commitment to community collaboration and environment-friendly development.
This petition is a call to action for WSSC and local officials to prioritize the well-being of residents and the environment. By signing this petition, you are voicing your demand for a project plan that embraces community input and sustainable development. Let us unite and ensure our neighborhood remains a healthy, green, and desirable place to live.
