Revise the Scientific Name of Genetically Modified Dire Wolves

Revise the Scientific Name of Genetically Modified Dire Wolves
The Issue
Speaking from a personal standpoint, I have a deep-seated bond with the dire wolf species which are recent genetic modifications from gray wolves. Given their lineage, it feels improper to just identify these creatures solely as dire wolves, thus neglecting their gray wolf heritage. Dire wolves originally represent an extinct species of the genus Canis. Fast forward to the present, the new breeds, while carrying the name dire wolves, were largely engineered from the genetic blueprint of gray wolves. I propose that the scientific nomenclature should reflect this reality, acknowledging their actual origin.
This isn’t just personal. It’s about respecting the intricate labyrinth of life and a testament to our scientific advancement. The act of naming a species carries great significance. It not only labels the species but also hints at its history, characteristics and lineage. To call these genetically modified creatures by an entirely new name is to overlook their true origins and the remarkable science that led to their creation.
Let us advocate for a change that is not just symbolic, but also scientifically correct. Stand with us in our call for a revision in the scientific name attributed to the new dire wolves. Let's ensure that the names we use are reflective and respectful of the truth. Please sign this petition and support our cause.
