MNP Parking Report:
Three of us met with Jeff Booke (MNP CEO) Tuesday to attempt to have the new parking policy altered in a manner more favourable to members.
Here’s a summary of what was said:
What Jeff said:
- There are many groups that have equal access to the parking, including athletes, event participants, schools, etc.
- MNP is legally obligated (by city agreement) to provide equal access to some of these groups.
- Two groups do have free access to parking: those with disabilities and Olympic path athletes.
- MNP does have full authority over the parking policy, although the city owns the property.
- MNP expects to lose money with the CPA system due to costs of customization and implementation. Hourly parking revenue goes to MNP, CPA keeps ticket revenue.
- He stated that the CPA system is hard to customize in a way that would help with membership access.
- MNP knows the parking is inadequate and will only get worse as the new facilities ramp up.
- A parking consultancy was hired to provide expertise.
What we suggested:
- Restrict access to non membership parkers and better control the abusers.
- Increase the free hours for members.
- Register members license plates for preferential treatment.
- Restrict access during Flames games.
- Delay the implementation for additional membership consultation.
What Jeff promised:
We ended our meeting with no changes or promises; Jeff was willing to meet again to further listen to our concerns but I don’t see much point in that at this time.
