I am a concerned student in Rochester Community Schools (RCS), experiencing firsthand the challenges of our current math curriculum. This new curriculum is leaving students struggling, feeling as though we have to teach ourselves the subject matter without adequate support or resources. This personal struggle has motivated me to seek change not just for myself, but for all students who are facing similar difficulties in their math education.

The current curriculum is not meeting the needs of students like me who are eager to learn and succeed. Students frequently feel overwhelmed and unsupported, negatively impacting our love for learning and our academic performance. By failing to provide a comprehensive and effective learning strategy, the existing curriculum understates the importance of mathematics in our academic careers and future endeavors.

Research from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) emphasizes that a strong and supportive math curriculum is foundational for student success. A well-structured curriculum not only boosts students' confidence in their mathematical abilities but also prepares them for advanced studies and real-world applications. However, many are finding that the current RCS math curriculum lacks cohesion, clarity, and engagement, making it difficult to grasp essential mathematical concepts.

Hence, I propose a revision of the RCS math curriculum to ensure it aligns better with effective educational practices and student needs.
