Revise the Inadequate Tree Ordinance to Protect Our Community & Trees

Revise the Inadequate Tree Ordinance to Protect Our Community & Trees
The Issue
Attention Homer Glen, IL, residents!
Since March 28, 2006, our community's tree ordinance has sadly only been amended once. It has proved ineffective in protecting our Village trees compared to neighboring communities.
Our Village was established on the principle of "Community and Nature in Harmony," yet the past and current administrations have not adequately prioritized tree protection as part of the mission.
Our tree ordinance, in its current state, threatens the delicate balance that has been our village's pride for years. The question is - How are we supposed to preserve the harmony between community and nature when the very codes meant to uphold this balance are outdated & do not encourage Homer Glen residents to preserve and protect trees?
As per the data from the Urban Forestry and Urban Greening research, trees contribute significantly to a community's social, environmental, and even economic wellbeing. Therefore, the neglect we are experiencing can have a potentially detrimental impact on our community's wellbeing. It is time we bring the attention back to the value our trees bring to our community, to ensure that the essence of our village character remains intact.
We, the undersigned residents in Homer Glen, Illinois, request that the Village of Homer Glen Mayor and Board of Trustees consider and recommended updates and act quickly on implementing proposed changes to AN ORDINANCE FOR THE PRESERVATION AND PROTECTION OF TREES IN THE VILLAGE OF HOMER GLEN.
The residents of Homer Glen deserve a tree ordinance that protects our environment and preserves character of Community that Residents have chosen to be a part of. Since March 28, 2006, only one amendment has been considered and the amended document provides much less protection of trees as compared to any other adjacent community. Let's work together by attending Village meetings, sending emails to the Village board, and by spreading the word to neighbors!
Together we can make a positive change!
