We are a local family-run business in Rainford, Saint Helens, UK. Our mission is to provide restaurant-quality takeaway options that promote healthy choices through our Mediterranean diet and produce. However, the current policies imposed by the council have hindered our ability to serve our community fully. These regulations prevent any takeaway from opening within 400m of a school, under the assumption that we promote unhealthy choices and obesity.

We want to clarify that we do not operate during school hours and actively work against promoting unhealthy eating habits. Our menu is based on the Mediterranean diet which is known for its health benefits including reducing heart disease risk by nearly 30% (source: New England Journal of Medicine).

This policy does not take into account businesses like ours that strive to offer healthier options for their customers. It also limits consumer choice and stifles local economic growth by preventing us from expanding our services.

We urge the council to reconsider this policy with a more nuanced approach, taking into consideration businesses who actively promote healthy eating habits rather than categorically banning all takeaways near schools.
