The Issue

Growing up, school fields were not just places for academic pursuits; they were a vibrant community hub where families could gather after hours, fostering community spirit and togetherness. In Langley Township, however, families are currently unable to bring their dogs to enjoy these open spaces during non-school hours due to existing 'No Dogs' policies. This petition aims to change that by moving 'No Dogs' signage to apply only during school hours.

Families in Langley Township are rightfully concerned about being penalized for bylaw infractions in their own family-oriented neighborhoods. These fields already serve as an unspoken gathering place for families and their furry friends outside school hours. As dog owners, we are seeking a sensible revision that allows for responsible shared use of these fields without imposing on school activities.

Enabling dogs on fields after school and during weekends would not only make use of these public spaces more equitable but also instigate community-based rule enforcement where residents can come together to ensure these areas are used respectfully and responsibly.

This proposal to implement a time-based rules concerning pet access to public spaces, improving community well-being and biodiversity without compromising on educational needs. Such success stories demonstrate that with clear guidelines, shared spaces enrich community life while minimizing conflict and maintaining the integrity of school facilities.

With enough community support, we can work with the Langley Township School District and Council to craft a policy that respects both educational needs and community desires. Please join us in advocating for a fair and balanced use of our public school fields. Sign this petition to urge Langley Township to usher in a new, more inclusive policy that truly reflects the values and needs of its citizens.
