The issue

Australia has long prided itself on being a nation that values independence, innovation, and the welfare of its people. However, the current state of foreign ownership laws threatens these foundational principles by allowing overseas interests to gain an upper hand over local enterprises. It’s time we address this issue head-on and take necessary steps to ensure that Australian interests are prioritized, and our economic future is safeguarded.

Foreign ownership of Australian resources, land, and companies has implications that extend far beyond corporate boardrooms. It affects every Australian in terms of job security, economic growth, and national sovereignty. Recent statistics reveal a significant portion of government grants and financial incentives are awarded to overseas companies, leaving Australian businesses at a competitive disadvantage. This not only shifts wealth out of our country but also limits job opportunities for our citizens.

Our proposal is twofold: First, we urge the government to revise foreign ownership laws to favor local interests while maintaining our international competitiveness. This can involve the implementation of rigorous screening processes for foreign investors, ensuring that they meet specific criteria that protect our economy and national interests.

Second, we demand that government grants, planning, and financial instruments such as project plans, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Requests for Tenders (RFTs) prioritize Australian companies. This shift can invigorate our local economy by keeping money and jobs within the country, ensuring sustainable economic growth and stability.

Countries worldwide have instituted similar measures with great success, reinforcing their local economies and securing better futures for their citizens. Australia should be no different. By prioritizing our local businesses and workforce, we set the stage for innovation, increased job security, and economic resilience.

We are calling on Australian political leaders, including members of Parliament and relevant government agencies, to take immediate action. Please support this petition and help us create laws that reflect the best interests of Australia and its people. By signing, you are advocating for a future where our nation can thrive unimpeded by unfair foreign competition. Sign now to protect Australian jobs and ensure a prosperous economic future for all citizens.
