Revise CBSE teacher training requirements..... Teachers' lives matter!!
The Issue
I am a dedicated teacher working under the CBSE board, and the recent changes to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements have begun to take a toll on my wellbeing and that of my fellow educators. According to the new directives, it is mandatory for all teachers to complete 50 hours of CBPs. However, an alarming discrepancy exists: a training session clocking 12 hours contributes a mere 3 hours towards our requirement.
This unjust policy not only undermines our efforts, but it also compounds the stress of an already demanding profession. It feels like an uphill battle, as we're compelled to fit these trainings into our schedules over weekends—our only respite from a rigorous work week. We value continuous improvement, yet the current setup affects our ability to decompress and regain the energy necessary to be effective educators. The rigid scheduling robs us of time with our families and personal rest.
It also imposes a financial burden that many of us are unprepared to shoulder, further exacerbating stress levels. This unfair financial expectation diverges from the initial purpose of professional development, which is meant to empower, not penalise, educators.
According to the Indian Journal of Educational Technology, teacher burnout is significantly higher when support structures are inadequate. This policy further risks lowering morale and efficiency across schools. At stake is not only our mental health and financial stability, but also the quality of education provided to students—our ultimate goal.
We appeal to CBSE to reconsider its CPD hours calculation to reflect the actual time devoted by teachers to training. Furthermore, it is crucial for CBSE to enforce the rightful funding of these trainings by schools, ensuring that teachers are not left to bear financial costs unnecessarily. By addressing these issues, CBSE can demonstrate a commitment to supporting teachers and, in turn, enhancing education for students across India.
Sign this petition to demand change and support the health, wellbeing, and financial fairness for all CBSE educators. Together, we can strive for a more equitable and functional professional development system that truly values and respects the dedication we bring to our roles.
