As a Landlord Rights Association of BC we are advocating for equal and fair rights for Landlords of BC. We are working for Landlords to protect property rights and we are doing what we can do in our limited capacity.
In our continuous efforts to make our case strong, today, we received a letter from BC Conservative party leader John Rustad in regards to property rights.
Please have a look at this.

Ensuring Property Rights of British Columbians
As Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, I am committed to standing up for British Columbians’ rights, particularly when it comes to protecting one of our most fundamental principles—private property rights.
Our government must respect the rights of property owners and ensure that they have the freedom to use and manage their properties as they see fit, without unnecessary interference from bureaucratic red tape or overreaching regulations.
The Land Act plays a critical role in managing land use across our province, and while responsible management is necessary, it is equally important that it does not infringe upon the rights of private property owners. We must ensure that this Act protects the interests of landowners while promoting responsible stewardship. This balance is essential to maintaining economic growth and individual freedoms.
Similarly, the Residential Tenancy Act must work for both tenants and landlords, not just one side. Property owners should not face excessive restrictions that discourage investment in housing. The more the government imposes unreasonable limitations on private property, the fewer people will be willing to rent out homes, and the greater our housing crisis will become. We need to reform this Act so that it provides protections for both tenants and landlords, ensuring a fair and balanced housing market.
Short-term rentals like Airbnb play a vital role in our economy, providing property owners with the flexibility to earn income, particularly in tourism-dependent areas. Recent moves to restrict Airbnb through excessive regulations have placed undue burdens on homeowners. While I support measures to prevent abuses in the system, I believe we need to reform these regulations in a way that respects property owners’ rights while addressing legitimate community concerns.
Furthermore, programs such as the MURB program (Multiple Unit Residential Building program), which encouraged investment in affordable rental housing in the past, should be reintroduced or expanded. These programs are effective in addressing the housing shortage and incentivizing property owners to invest in rental properties without feeling constrained by unreasonable legislation. Property owners, developers, and investors must be supported in their efforts to contribute to British Columbia’s housing solutions.
British Columbia deserves leadership that understands the importance of private property rights and that is willing to stand up against the overreach of government into people’s personal and economic freedoms. That is the leadership the Conservative Party of British Columbia is offering, and it is why we will continue to fight for policies that respect property ownership, encourage investment, and protect the freedoms of every British Columbian.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to working together to protect the property rights that are foundational to our province’s prosperity.
Sincerely, John Rustad Leader, Conservative Party of British Columbia
