Review the Maximum Penalty for Animal Cruelty in Northern Ireland

Review the Maximum Penalty for Animal Cruelty in Northern Ireland
The Issue
Our country has witnessed some of the most vile animal abuse cases, and the law is too lenient. It’s time to make a change and impose heavier jail sentences and fines for animal abusers. Currently, Northern Ireland's maximum penalty for animal cruelty is 5 years imprisonment (Animal Welfare Act 2011). However, this does not seem to deter offenders or provide justice for the innocent animals who suffer.
Recent cases have shown that perpetrators often receive much lighter sentences, undermining public confidence in our legal system's ability to protect animals. Tougher penalties would serve as a stronger deterrent and reflect society's condemnation of such abhorrent behavior.
Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to review and increase the maximum penalties for animal cruelty in Northern Ireland. We also want opportunities for bail conditions to be reviewed, so it’s harder for the abusers to walk free amongst the rest of us. Your support can help ensure that justice is served and that we create a safer environment for all animals.
