Why is the Govt of India, 'for the people,  by the people and of the people' even after 66 years of existence still distinguishing among citizens by branding some as SC, ST and OBC based on their birth. Is it of the notion that they are less capable by birth?  If not then why label them separately?There should only be one class called 'Economically Backward Class' based on income which can be extended benefits. Those who seek to come under this category should declare their status and be open to scrutiny as to their income levels. Such a practice would not just reduce the need for reservations, which currently stands at around 50% but also discourage people from opting for them unless needed. A reduced rate of reservation would in turn open the doors for the capable a d prevent them from disillusionment. If India aspires to be a knowledge giver then it has to promote and conserve its talent and talent unrecognised is often talent wasted. Such is the far reaching impact of the current reservation system in India imposed by its own government. 

Such classifications by birth were a colonial strategy of Divide and Rule which should be discontinued. It is not just an insult to the people labelled as SC, ST and OBC but also a curse to the General Category. After 66 years of enforcement in the name of balancing the scales, it is now leading to reversal discrimination against the hitherto upper castes, especially the not-so-well-to-do. A new type of divide is occurring wherein the general Caste now feels that the lower castes are being unduly gifted their opportunities. Unless such a divide is prevented how can se hope to achieve a society where all are equal. Can boundaries ever be erased by drawing more boundaries perpendicular to them? Never. It only leads to further fragmentation. If India needs to move forward, we need to establish a new and rational criterias regarding those who are to be helped. 

Today, the downtrodden remain downtrodden while those who took advantage of reservations to shine are now polishing their fortunes by using the caste card and are not competing with the general public. They emerge as leaders of our hitherto unfortunate brothers and in turn stab them in the back by misleading them, all this time, enjoying Casteist benefits at their behest. The pumping of taxpayer money and rights into this political patronage for the sake of votes should be stopped immediately to promote harmony and unity. 

People should be welcomed to submit their caste certificates and those capable should be obliged to submit their benefits so that it can reach the needy.  If the leaders of this nation are really interested in upliftment of the poor and downtrodden and not in Caste based vote banks,  those utilising the reservation should be asked to turn in their caste status wherever possible and be rendered as General Caste.  At least in government offices and posts, where there are standard salaries and perks that would enable anyone to become more than self-sufficient, such practise can be employed with confidence that the objective of providing reservation in such individual cases has met its end. This way more needy people can avail of the opportunities instead of a few taking advantage of it. Poor people from General Castes should also be offered reservations as they are as unfortunate and challenged as the hitherto lower castes but consecutive governments have chosen to ignore the plight of this section of people as it is not to their convenience. 

When nearly all the higher education courses in India are granted based on merit in computer based objective centralised exams where is the scope of discrimination? The only difference lies in the challenges a student had to face to get there which are more in  the case of poor whether they ve high or low caste. And even if such a practice is being continued at any such place, the concerned people should be punished after adequate enquiry in a targeted manner instead of laying to waste the efforts of those who have chosen to omit these differences and move forward. 

The Government and Parliament should therefore set up a rigidly time bound high level collegium without political bias comprising of people from academics, business, civil society, bureaucracy, arts, social reformers, legislators, judges and above all STUDENTS and TEACHERS from all Govt., private and deemed universities to relook at the criteria for reservation and act upon its recommendations We all have one Mother India and one Father of the Nation,  one Flag,  one primary identity and that is 'Indian'. All people of all castes should be extended the Right to Equality as enshrined in The Constitution of India. 

Please stop laying waste to everything everyone did for a unified India by perpetuating this cultural divide.
