The issue

The link between alcohol consumption and domestic violence is clear and beyond doubt.

Yet despite all the evidence - a Dan Murphy's mega barn has just been approved to be built in a well known family violence hotspot.

Currently, the Liquor Control Commission does not have to take into consideration local family violence statistics when assessing applications - letting corporates like Woolies roll out its alcohol megastores at the expense of the communities it's affecting.

.  Objections with compelling evidence were placed before the Commission by Victoria Police, Casey Council, the Ambulance Service, health experts and many local residents but the law limits the capacity of the Commission to consider 'amenity".  This can and should be fixed, all it takes is for the government to have the courage to stand up to the pressure from the corporate big boys like Woolworths (owners of Dan Murphy's) and fix this broken system. This loophole must be closed. Join with Cr Amanda Stapledon and other Casey residents to call for this change now!
