Thank you so much to everyone that has signed and shared this petition. It means the world that so many resonate and feel the same towards better police policies and guidance when it comes to misconduct.
We need the best in society to protect us!
I am planning to deliver this Petition to Parliament shortly but i will keep you updated every step of the way.
I have sent letters to the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, Minister of Crime, Policing and Fire, Victim's Commissioner, Minister of VAWG and my local MP, but no response sadly.
I just want to work with the government to make sure that they have watertight policies and legislation to make sure that no one slips through the net.
Ultimately I believe the police should not be able to police themselves, I think a separate body should be created to do this, and no not the IOPC (they are not independent). But if nothing positive comes from this then I will create a separate petition.
The government should hold the police more to account and give them statutory deadlines to meet targets and if they fail by a certain amount of time, then scrap the misconduct departments within policing and create a separate body made of lawyers and civil staff who are not officers or police employees and are specifically trained in police misconduct and its history.
Lots of work to do, clearly. But I'm up for the job.
Best wishes,
Issy x
P.S buy the recent issue of Private Eye and check out page 40. A little article in there that I wrote about a couple of Met Police Misconduct cases.
