The Issue

We, as a community of local residents and business owners, are deeply affected by the recent traffic calming measures implemented in the Chatsworth Road E5 area of Hackney. These measures, aimed at improving the local environment, have resulted in unintended consequences that are causing severe disruption to our daily lives and livelihoods.

The introduction of the Bus gate at the end of Brooksbys Walk E5 has particularly exacerbated these issues. The restricted access has not only led to horrifically disrupted travel, with delays and significantly increased journey times, but it has also inflicted a huge negative impact on businesses due to reduced footfall. Additionally, the supposed reduction in vehicular traffic has unfortunately led to increased congestion and pollution on surrounding residential streets, contrary to the initiative's goals.

We acknowledge the importance of traffic management and the council's intention to enhance the community's quality of life. However, these measures have not been successful in achieving their intended outcomes and have instead created chaos for both residents and businesses. The evidence of increased traffic jams and pollution is undeniable and needs immediate attention.

We are therefore urging Hackney Council, Street Scene, and Transport for London (TfL) to thoroughly review the current traffic measures. We specifically request the reversal of the Bus gate at the end of Brooksbys Walk E5 and the new traffic reduction measures, including the restrictions  Chatsworth road between 7am - 7pm, and also the implemented changes to no right turns onto Lea Bridge Road from Chatsworth Road, and left turns into Chatsworth Road from Lea Bridge Road. We request a comprehensive assessment of the negative impact these changes have had on our community. We believe that with constructive dialogue and innovative solutions, we can find a way to balance traffic management with the needs of local residents and businesses.

Join us in calling for a reassessment of these traffic measures to ensure that they serve the community effectively and equitably. Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to take immediate action and prioritize the well-being of Chatsworth Road, Hackney residents and businesses.
