Revert YouTube's AI Verification Feature
Revert YouTube's AI Verification Feature
The Issue
For those who somehow don't know:
YouTube is pushing an update (or maybe they already have when you're reading this) that will use AI to verify your age on the platform. If it tracks patterns that show signs of you being under the age of 18, they will put in a bunch of precautions to ensure that usage of the site is controlled - including disabling personalized ads, which, if it were to happen, would absolutely destroy major creator's ad revenue (personalized ads generate WAY more money than just ads). And for being a site where most creators are heavily focused on kids content (e.g. KreekCraft, Nico, PrestonPlays), this would cause a massive hit to most if not all of kids content creators.
That's not all: If the site misidentifies you as under 18, you have the option to send them a picture of your credit card or government issued ID or drivers liscence. This is a problem because data breaches exist. Even if they didn't, all it takes is one rouge employee to sell all your data to the dark web. All of a sudden, you're now a potential victim of cybercrime.
I'm almost certain that I'm not the only person who agrees with shutting this update down, so if you agree too go ahead and sign this petition. Hopefully we can end up getting this petition all the way up to YouTube's headquarters and they'll see that maybe they made a mistake.
