Revert Marshall City Animal Shelter to a No-Kill Facility Under Saline Animal League

The Issue

As a resident of Marshall, MO, I have witnessed the transformation of our city animal shelter from a safe haven for animals into a kill shelter. This change was not only heartbreaking but also unnecessary. The Saline Animal League (SAL), which had been successfully running this no-kill shelter, was ousted due to disagreements with the chief of police.

The old city kill shelter was an abhorrent place for animals. It is distressing that we have returned to such conditions after experiencing the compassionate and effective management by SAL. Their dedication ensured every animal received proper care and an opportunity at finding a loving home.

According to data from American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year in America (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats). These numbers could be significantly reduced if more shelters adopted no-kill policies.

We urge our local government officials in Marshall, MO to reconsider their decision and return control of the city animal shelter back to SAL so it can once again become a no-kill facility. Let us prioritize compassion over control; let's give these innocent creatures another chance at life.

Please sign this petition if you believe in giving every animal an opportunity at life and love.
