The Issue

We, the families of Whitehouse ISD, are asking district leadership to reverse the recently approved “staggered” start and end times for the 2026–2027 school year and pause implementation until meaningful parent input is gathered and considered.

The approved schedule is not what many families believed they were responding to in the original survey, and it raises serious concerns that directly impact daily life across the district.

Approved schedule:
Elementary Schools: 7:40 AM – 3:05 PM
Holloway & Whitehouse Junior High: 7:45 AM – 3:10 PM
Whitehouse High School: 8:25 AM – 3:55 PM

This is not a minor adjustment. For many families, it significantly disrupts daily routines and responsibilities.

Families are concerned about:

  • Work schedule conflicts for parents and working students
  • Increased childcare needs that may not be affordable or available
  • High school students being dropped off 45 minutes to an hour before the school day begins
  • Younger siblings arriving home before older siblings are available to supervise
  • Increased difficulty scheduling appointments without missing instructional time
  • Student well-being, including earlier start times for younger students despite the importance of adequate sleep .

Parents have also raised concerns about a lack of clear communication surrounding this decision. Many have asked for a straightforward explanation and still have not received a clear, consistent answer as to why these changes are necessary.

We deserve transparency—and a meaningful opportunity to be heard. While board meetings exist, many families cannot attend due to work, childcare, or conflicting schedules. That should not exclude them from decisions that directly affect their daily lives.

We are asking Whitehouse ISD leadership to:

  • Reverse the approved start times for the 2026–2027 school year
  • Pause implementation until parent concerns are fully heard and considered
  • Ensure meaningful parent input is gathered before any new schedule is approved

If you believe we should have a voice in decisions that directly impact their daily lives, please sign and share.
