The Issue

Every day, I feed and care for the community dogs in my neighborhood. They know me, trust me, and have peacefully coexisted with us for years. These dogs are not just animals; they are valued members of our community, having been sterilized and vaccinated according to the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023. Forcing them into overcrowded and unhygienic shelters, as per the recent Supreme Court order, would be not only cruel and unnecessary but also detrimental to their well-being.

The Supreme Court's decision to relocate community dogs to shelters is inhumane and impractical. These creatures have become part of our lives — lives that I see, love, and protect on a daily basis. Sending them to crammed shelters would disrupt their established territories and inhibit their access to regular care, leading to severe distress and suffering.

Moreover, evidence shows that the relocation of community dogs does not enhance public safety. It tends to cause a "vacuum effect," whereby new dogs move into the emptied spaces, negating the intended effect of the relocation. Such measures do more harm than good, overwhelming already burdened shelter systems and redirecting resources away from effective and humane population control methods.

The solution lies not in removing these dogs from their familiar environments but in supporting and strengthening humane, community-based initiatives like sterilization and vaccination programs. Proven methods like these help maintain and manage the existing canine population without causing unnecessary harm to these animals or disrupting community harmony.

Sign this petition to urge the Supreme Court to reconsider its order and to adopt more humane, effective, and community-friendly measures to address the welfare and management of community dogs. Let us stand together to protect the lives and well-being of these dogs that are an integral part of our communities. Your signature can make a difference. Sign the petition now to help us overturn this order and promote a more compassionate alternative.
