Reverse the Social Media Ban and ID Age Verification in Malaysia
The Issue
We all know why this under-16 ban sucks.
It kills the Internet and turns the entire digital world into a state-vetted checkpoint. And it only exists to ID adults and kill anonymity and privacy for all.
Worst of all, in Malaysia, NO ONE speaks out about this AT ALL.
Just take a look at a recent BBC report in the UK: A reporter asked a student about the social media ban, and her response is concise:
'Stare at a wall'.
That is proof that this whole social media ban age verification thing only makes kids' mental health much, much worse. People use social media for information, and without it, suicide rates only go higher!
In the UK, people want Kier Starmer out because of the exact same thing. A petition to unban social media there has reached over 100K signatures. But here? No one speaks out about Fahmi Fadzil and his 1984 Big Brother regime because no one even CARES to speak out.
I tried to talk to my parents all about the dangers, the consequences, how this affects SO MANY KIDS, but they believe ALL of the government's lies and DO NOT CARE even for a single MOMENT that their data WILL be breached, sold to third parties, and stolen. DID THEY EVEN THINK THIS THROUGH FOR A SECOND?
This. Ends. NOW! WE WANT FAHMI FADZIL OUT OF THIS COUNTRY (or AT LEAST make him regret ever doing this), AND MAKE SOCIAL MEDIA FULLY ACCESSIBLE TO MINORS AGAIN!
The REAL solution is parents need to ACTUALLY parent and put parental controls, NOT the state trying to replace parents and destroying ALL our privacy, leading to FAR more stalking of innocent users! This does NOT make kids safe, because a hacker can just breach the database and STEAL their identity at any given moment. It locks them out of friendships, it locks them out of DONATIONS, and worst of all IT HINDERS THEIR ABILITIES TO LEARN AND GAIN ACCESS TO CRITICAL INFORMATION ALL ACROSS THE WORLD. Remember how almost 60% of Australian kids said they lost access to news the moment their ban went live?
Edward Snowden already proved the USA illegally surveilled users by selling data. Benjamin Franklin said it best: 'Those who are willing to give up essential Liberty, for purchase temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty not Safety.'
