Reverse the Funding Cuts to Indian Residential School Initiatives

The Issue

Affected deeply as part of the Indigenous community, we feel the harsh sting of broken promises. With the recent announcement, the regrettable shadow of Residential schools becomes even darker. By 2024-2025 and 2025-2026, funding for initiatives concerning Indian Residential schools is slated to be cut by a staggering 84%, from $3,000,000 to a paltry $500,000. This, unequivocally, disregards the Canadian government's promise of reconciliation.

Decades of trauma and scars etched by these schools on our Survivors cannot possibly see any semblance of healing and reconciliation when funding to address these very issues face such unprecedented cuts. These funding cuts not only impair our journey towards healing, but they wholeheartedly disregard the heartrending cries of the Children who never made it home.

The Bringing Our Children Home initiative led by Lac Seul First Nation now calls for the reversal of these unjust funding cuts. Our voices must be heard, and our earnest plea to mend the broken promises must echo through the corridors of decision-making.

We implore you to stand with us in rectifying this grave injustice to indigenous populations across Canada, and aid us in our fight for proper reconciliation and healing. Act now and demand the Canadian government to reverse these funding cuts to Indian Residential School Initiatives. Your signature is a step towards preserving our history, promoting reconciliation, and bringing peace to the children who never made it home. Please, sign the petition.
