The Issue

Starting July 1st, 2026, the city of Worcester, MA has banned all residents of Sudbury St. from obtaining parking permits

I have been living in Worcester, MA for over three years, enjoying the vibrant community and welcoming spirit this city offers. However, a recent decision by Mark Kostovski to ban street parking permits for my building has jeopardized my ability to continue living here. This decision has left me with two unpalatable choices: risk getting multiple parking tickets daily or pay an exorbitant $180 a month per vehicle for parking down/across the street. With two vehicles in my family, this translates to an unbearable additional expense.

This situation isn't just affecting me but is a significant financial burden on residents of my building. For many, this unexpected increase means an additional $125 to $500 a month in expenses. For individuals and families living on a tight budget, this sudden financial pressure is untenable and could force us out of Worcester. I will personally be priced out of the city solely based off of this decision. Many of us will be forced to live this reality months into our leases, effectively increasing our rent during an already incredibly difficult time.

The parking permit system previously in place was a lifeline for many of us, allowing us to affordably park near our homes. The sudden revocation of this system without a suitable alternative is unfair and inconsiderate of the residents’ needs.

Therefore, I implore Mark Kostovski and the Worcester city officials to consider a reversal of this decision. We need to return to the previous system or implement an alternative solution that considers the financial realities of Worcester residents.

We respectfully request:
- Immediate restoration of permit eligibility
- Grandfathering for existing residents
- A hardship or appeals process
- A reasonable transition period

Join me in supporting this cause to ensure that Worcester remains an inclusive and affordable place for all its residents. Sign this petition to reverse the ban on street parking permits, letting us park near our homes without crippling financial implications
