Speaking as a resident who has lived in my home for the past 14 years, and with the background of strenuously working two jobs just to barely get by, the 84% property tax increase being implemented by the city of Dunkirk is placing us all under severe threat. Unfortunately, the harsh reality of inflation and increasing cost of living are already making it next to impossible for many of us to barely keep our heads above water. As it stands, New York is the highest overall taxed state in the union, and taxpayers are feeling crushed under this burden. Local governments work for the people not the other way around. The negligence and mismanagement of our tax dollars has violated the trust of the taxpayers of this community. To shakedown the taxpayers to pay for it is unjustified and lacks accountability. This excessive tax increase will only exacerbate the city’s problem caused by population and business loss. Taxpayers should not be responsible for subsidizing it's local government that refuses to make necessary reforms for revenue and cuts from within. 

This significant tax increase will have detrimental effects on our lives. Real people will lose their cherished homes, a fear that is becoming more and more real for many of us. We need your help to reverse this outrageous 84% tax increase and combat the social and economic disadvantages it will bring.
