Reverse the £195 yearly road tax on electric vehicles in the UK and put it back to £0/year

Reverse the £195 yearly road tax on electric vehicles in the UK and put it back to £0/year
The Issue
I am a proud owner of an electric vehicle (EV) and I bought it with the aim to contribute positively to the environment. The charge is a disincentive to the take up of EV's at a time when the government says it wants to promote greener transport and net zero. At the same time, older polluting vehicles are allowed to continue at £0/year road tax, which is a paradox that should be stopped.
At the time that I sold my petrol car, I was under the impression that I was transitioning to a greener EV alternative. This tax discourages others from opting for greener transport options. This is counterproductive at a time when our government is encouraging its citizens to adhere to greener measures and achieve net zero emissions.
This tax is not only incoherent with the government's professed environmental commitments, but also dissuades people from making eco-friendly vehicle choices. With approximately 164,100 pure electric vehicles on UK roads, the potential environmental benefit is significant (source: RAC Report on Motoring, 2020).
This petition urges the UK government to reconsider the £195 yearly road tax on electric vehicles, and return it to £0/year. Let us encourage an environment-friendly society where individuals are not penalised for making green choices. In the broader interest of the environment, it is urgent that this policy is rolled back. Kindly sign this petition and let us together demand a fair consideration for all EV owners.
