On Friday March 8 2025, Ice Hockey UK suddenly announced a new Sex and Gender Participation Policy. The policy seeks to ban transgender women from competing in female categories, although it has potentially much more wide-ranging implications.

This policy is exclusionary, contradicting Ice Hockey UK’s own commitment to a “safe, equal, inclusive and progressive environment”. It undermines the work of ice hockey teams to be safe and inclusive sporting environments, and will alienate significant numbers of players. 

This policy was not communicated or consulted on with women’s teams, and  we, the undersigned, strongly oppose this policy. We call for Ice Hockey UK to rescind the policy and work with teams and players to design and inclusive and workable policy.
