Reverse Ban on Hemp-Derived Products

The Issue

Recent federal legislature - introduced by Mitch McConnell (R - KY) - has changed the definition of industrial hemp, making hemp-derived products illegal to sell as of November 12, 2026 (a year from the date the bill was signed). I have personally witnessed the profound positive impact that hemp-derived THC products have had on the lives of many individuals. Friends and acquaintances who suffer from chronic pain, anxiety, sleep disorders, and other debilitating health issues have found relief and a vastly improved quality of life thanks to these products. For these individuals, hemp-derived THC is not just a choice—it's a lifeline.

However, recent federal legislation threatens to cut this lifeline. The move to ban hemp-derived THC products is not only detrimental to those who rely on them for health and wellness but also harms our local economies. Small businesses that have been thriving and providing jobs in our communities will face insurmountable challenges, potentially leading to widespread closures. This sector has been a catalyst for economic growth and innovation, offering a sustainable source of income that supports families and stimulates local prosperity.

It's essential to recognize that hemp-derived THC products offer therapeutic benefits that are backed by scientific research and countless user testimonials. Many studies have shown the potential health benefits of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp, in treating conditions such as epilepsy, anxiety, and chronic pain.

Moreover, hemp cultivation has significant positive environmental impacts. Hemp is a sustainable crop, known for its ability to improve soil quality and reduce carbon emissions. By banning hemp-derived products, we are not only taking a step back in public health but also hindering progress towards environmental sustainability.

I urge the federal government to reconsider this ban. Let's focus on regulating these products responsibly rather than imposing a sweeping prohibition. Solutions such as implementing stringent quality controls, establishing clear labeling standards, and ensuring proper dosage guidelines can address safety concerns while preserving access for those in need.

Let’s advocate for informed policy decisions that prioritize public health, economic stability, and environmental sustainability. Please join me in calling on the federal government to lift the ban on hemp-derived THC products and continue to support this vital industry. Sign this petition to protect the health and livelihoods of countless individuals across the country.
