As a long-time resident of South Wingfield, Alfreton, and, more importantly, a parent, I can no longer overlook the state of the park at South Wingfield welfare. My children, and many others from our community, frequent the park, which is showing signs of ageing and neglect. This shared space, so essential for our children's play, learning, and overall development, needs immediate attention.

South Wingfield Welfare Park represents not just an outdoor space for physical activities but also an indispensable part of our community. It's a place where people, young and old, interact, nurture relationships and build our community spirit.

It has come to our notice that the park's recreational facilities have not undergone significant renovation or refurbishment for some time. The ageing equipment, the weathered structures pose a potential safety risk for our children and dampen the overall park experience.

With the local population growing at a steady rate (source: Office for National Statistics, UK), the importance and use of community parks will significantly increase in the years to come. An investment in refurbishing the park today is an investment in our future—a future where our children can continue to play, learn and grow in a safe and appealing environment.

We urge the responsible authorities to recognize the need, value, and potential of the South Wingfield Welfare Park and undertake a comprehensive refurbishment project. I also need to mention that there is section 106 funding that is sat there not being spent nor will it be unless we do something about it!!!
