The Issue

My son has been repeatedly bullied at his school, and although the incidents on the playground are addressed, the classroom situation is often overlooked. Teachers sometimes fail to sit down with students individually to understand their perspectives. Furthermore, as a person of colour, I have faced microaggressive remarks at the school gate, which further highlights the need for a comprehensive review of school environments.

Schools frequently put on a facade when Ofsted inspections are conducted, masking real issues that affect pupils and parents. It's crucial to recognize that school inspections should provide a genuine reflection of the school environment, which can only be achieved by incorporating the voices of those directly impacted—the students and their parents.

I propose that Ofsted broaden its evaluation process by also conducting market research to gather authentic feedback from pupils and parents about their experiences. This could involve surveys or interviews that provide a holistic view of the school's environment. By doing so, the inspections would be more comprehensive, ensuring schools are held accountable for both academic outcomes and the wellbeing of the students.

This change will not only highlight the issues that are otherwise swept under the rug but also help create a more inclusive, supportive school atmosphere for all students, regardless of background. It is vital that these essential voices are heard to foster environments where every student can thrive.

Sign this petition to urge Ofsted to include parental and student feedback in their evaluation process and ensure a safe and nurturing educational environment for all children.
