Revamp India's education policy. Grades Over Talent should be abolished.
The Issue
Have you ever felt that just because you aren't able to memorize piles of information and ace the standardized exams like NEET or JEE, your true potential is being overlooked? I certainly do. As a student, I find myself lost in a system that values rote learning over genuine passion and interest. I am not one of those who can score a perfect 99.99% in exams, but I am deeply enthusiastic about the subjects I love. Unfortunately, our education system doesn't seem to see the value in this.
India’s current education policy seems to revolve around examinations and percentages, effectively turning students into rote-learning machines, rather than fostering true intelligence and holistic growth. Take, for example, historical geniuses like Einstein; he failed his school math tests but revolutionized the world with his ideas. How many future Einsteins might we be losing to the rigidity of our education system?
Our education system determines a student's worth with exams like NEET, JEE, and board examinations. In contrast, global institutions like MIT and Harvard seek to nurture well-rounded individuals and select students based on a holistic evaluation of their capabilities and talents. It’s high time India shifts towards an education system that nurtures real intelligence and passion, rather than producing graduates who are good at memorization, but not necessarily innovative or creative.
What we need is a policy overhaul that focuses on the overall development of a student's personality and capabilities. Inviting prestigious institutes such as IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS to rethink and innovate their selection criteria could be a great start. This would encourage students to develop real-world skills and innovative mindsets which are crucial in today's fast-paced world.
Let's take a bold step towards a brighter future for India. Let's ask our policymakers to do away with the old and bring in new, progressive educational reforms that prepare students not just for exams, but for life. Sign this petition to support a holistic and fair education system in India. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
