While we all think zoos are just fun places to go on the weekend, that's not what they are for. Zoos were created to promote biodiversity and conservation. This meant that injured animals were brought in to heal and be released. Proper and beneficial breeding was occurring to help raise the population of endangered animals. Reintroducing animals to the wild and rehabilitating them was a huge part of zoos. 

Now, they have shifted to a very dark place. Zoos are used for human entertainment. The animals inside are treated like absolute trash. They are stuck in tiny enclosures, lack so much stimulation that they harm themselves, live almost 20 years less than what their lifespan would be in the wild, and so much more. More animals die in captivity a year than in the wild. They develop even more health issues such as arthritis and even depression and anxiety. This is no way for animals to live.
