Return to our Heartland: Bring the South Sydney Rabbitohs Home Ground Back to Allianz Stadium
🐇❤️💚🤍
ATTN TO: The Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly
For almost 20 years, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have been based at Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park—far from their spiritual and geographical heartland. It's time to bring the South Sydney Rabbitohs back to our Heartland in Moore Park in South Sydney territory. We are calling on the NSW Government to approve the permanent relocation of South Sydney’s home games to Allianz Stadium.
Why This Change Is Necessary
1. The Current Venue No Longer Serves the Club or Its Fans
Accor Stadium is over 30 kilometres away from the Rabbitohs’ heartland communities in Redfern, Maroubra, and the inner-south and south-east suburbs of Sydney. For many fans—especially those without reliable access to transport or attending games on weeknights—this location is simply too difficult to reach.
2. A Stadium That’s Too Big and Lacks Atmosphere
With a capacity of over 80,000 people, Accor Stadium often sits well below a third full during Rabbitohs games, which can at times create a flat and disengaged atmosphere, even when passionate fans are cheering loudly. In contrast, Allianz Stadium—with its 42,500-seat capacity—is perfectly sized to host Rabbitohs NRL matches. It offers a more intimate and electric game-day experience, helping to energise fans and boost on-field performance.
3. No Follow-Through on Promised Upgrades
The NSW Government committed to major redevelopment works at Accor Stadium—yet those upgrades have failed to materialise. Meanwhile, the Government has delivered, or is delivering significant investment in three other venues—Allianz Stadium, CommBank Stadium and the new stadium in Penrith—creating modern facilities that elevate the experience for players, fans, broadcasters, and sponsors. It is not reasonable to continue housing a marquee NRL club in a stadium that is outdated, underutilised, and neglected.
4. Return on Investment for NSW Taxpayers
The people of NSW deserve to have a greater return on the investment after their tax dollars were invested into the state-of-the-art stadium facility at Moore Park. With only the Sydney Roosters, Sydney FC and NSW Waratahs as anchor tenants, this stadium could be used more effectively, efficiently and with a greater return on investment for the people of NSW if the Rabbitohs played a majority of their home games from this stadium.
Why Allianz Stadium is the Right Choice
If the Government is unwilling to make the necessary investment in Accor Stadium, then fairness dictates that the Rabbitohs be permitted to move to another venue within the Venues NSW network. Allianz Stadium is a natural and logical choice. It offers superior infrastructure, is ideally located for the South Sydney community, and would provide the club with access to the type of modern, vibrant sporting environment it deserves.
Relocating to Allianz would also:
• Improve the utilisation of a world-class facility that has already received more than $800 million in public funding.
• Distribute Sydney’s NRL content more evenly across the city and reduce scheduling pressure on western Sydney venues.
• Increase crowd attendance, fan engagement, and game-day revenue opportunities.
• Align with the original business case that justified public investment in Allianz as a multi-club, high-impact stadium.
• Be a venue for aspiring young Rabbitohs to want to play in a stadium that is more accessible to families and children based in the south-eastern and inner-southern suburbs with the South Sydney Rabbitohs represent with pride each and every day.
What We’re Asking
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to respectfully urge the NSW Government to do what’s right—for the game, the club, and the community. Let South Sydney Rabbitohs Return to the Heartland. Let our members and supporters walk to Moore Park, not travel across the city. Let’s fill the stands at Allianz Stadium and bring back the passion, pride, and unity that defines the Rabbitohs.
Sign this petition if you believe the South Sydney Rabbitohs should be allowed to move back to their heartland which encapsulates Allianz Stadium. Together, we can bring the Pride of the League back to where it belongs.
