On December 8, 2023, a beloved member of our community was taken from inside of his home. "Rags," a deaf Old English Sheepdog who had recently been rehomed to a loving and dedicated veterinary technician and volunteer for the Old English Sheepdog Rescue Network of the South East was stolen when a masked and armed thief entered his home and took him away. The incident occurred in Silverhill, AL and was captured on a Ring doorbell camera.

Rags' owner is not just any pet lover; she is someone who dedicates her life to caring for animals in need. She works full time as a Veterinary Technician and spends her free time volunteering with rescue organizations focusing on senior and disabled dogs. When she heard about Rags' situation - an elderly couple needing assistance rehoming their deaf dog - she didn't hesitate to open her heart and home.

The loss of Rags has left an irreplaceable void in this compassionate woman's life. Furthermore, it's not just about one stolen dog; it's about the safety of our community as well. According to statistics from the American Kennel Club (AKC), pet thefts have been on the rise over recent years across America.

We urge you to join us in calling upon local law enforcement agencies including City of Silverhill Police Department to prioritize this case and bring justice for Rags' family by locating and prosecuting those responsible for this heinous act.
