Thank you for signing the petition to keep Charlie Girl Kākā in her home at Punanga Manu o Te Anau (the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary). She has received support from her local community in Te Anau, from around Aotearoa New Zealand, and the World.
Charlie Girl's keepers, volunteers, and community do so much to support her. So many people go the extra mile to keep her comfortable and happy. Despite her health issues, she is thriving and continuing to enjoy her voluntary Physical Therapy program.
The attached photo shows Charlie Girl taking her medicine mixed in a special treat. If you look closely, you can see the beautiful blue highlights above her eye. The hand in the photo is my own, and though it is an honor to be able to volunteer at the Sanctuary and work with Charlie, I have clearly seen how closely bonded she is to her amazing keepers. The care they have provided has helped Charlie thrive, and she cares for them as much as they care for her.
The captive managers still wish to move Charlie, though this is unnecessary. Charlie Girl, with support from her keepers, has previously raised many chicks at Punanga Manu o Te Anau. She previously had a lovely partner named Bling, a handsome male kaka. Charlie's future should certainly be in Te Anau, where she is supported and successful and at home.
The best way to help is to share Charlie's story on Social media and ask for support. While change .org provides a 'boost' feature, most of our signatures have come from requests for signatures on social media. Please share her story and the petition on your wall and ask for help. A brief explanation of her situation, and the wonderful care she receives at Te Anau, can help explain why we need more support to keep Charlie Girl at home.
If you reside in or near Te Anau, and know Charlie and her Team, I am looking to interview people to further boost her message and gain support. You can find me on Facebook (Christina Abramowicz) and shoot me a message, or email me at VetAltCare@gmail.com
Lastly, Charlie Girl has had many amazing messages of support. I wish to share part of Danica's message with you: "Surely the fact she has bred and come such a long way shows that she is in the right place to thrive and a testament to what an amazing team she has caring for her. This poor girl has been through enough and deserves to stay where she is as a part of the Te Anau whānau and a taonga species at our local Sanctuary ♥️"
Sincerely,
Christina on behalf of Charlie Girl Kākā and her whānau
