Empty Words from Josh Murray, Transport Secretary

Transport Secretary Josh Murray has told the community in writing:

“Transport for NSW understands the concerns of the community regarding amenity and access at Bradfield Park South and is taking steps to revitalise parts of the park for the community as accessible public space.”

Those words ring hollow.

Despite these assurances, Transport for NSW continues to demonstrate a staggering disregard for this iconic foreshore land and, more seriously, for the safety of the public.

A photograph taken at 5pm on 4 September shows an exposed open drain with a severely damaged cover at Bradfield Park South. Even more concerning, a metal article, possibly a tool,  has been left beside the drain.

This is not revitalisation. This is neglect.

Bradfield Park South has been occupied by Transport for NSW for years, yet the site is in a condition that presents an obvious and unacceptable safety risk to anyone who may venture into the area.

This is particularly damming given the Transport Secretary’s explicit assurance that:

“Public health and safety is the highest priority for Transport for NSW.”

If public health and safety really is the highest priority, how can Transport for NSW justify leaving an exposed drain and damaged cover in a public park?

Words are meaningless when they are contradicted by what is happening on the ground.

The community deserves more than assurances. It deserves action.

Transport for NSW must immediately make Bradfield Park South safe, remove its damaging work compounds, and take responsibility for the condition in which it has left this iconic public land.

This is beyond unacceptable. It is a serious failure of duty and stewardship — and it must be addressed immediately.
