Return All Capable Orcas to Their Natural Ocean Habitats

Return All Capable Orcas to Their Natural Ocean Habitats
The Issue
As someone who values the life and wellbeing of these incredible beings known as orcas, I'm urging everyone to consider the harmful effects of keeping them in captivity. Personally, witnessing orca's lives and the lives of their trainers often jeopardized for amusement truly breaks my heart. It's undoubtedly clear that these majestic creatures suffer both physically and mentally in the small tanks they are confined in for our entertainment purposes. They have rights that we must recognize and uphold to provide them a better life, far removed from their captive existence.
Notably, orcas, also known as "killer whales," are found in oceans worldwide. In the wild, orcas travel up to 100 miles a day; however, in captivity, they are confined to tanks that are less than 1/10,000th of their natural habitat range (National Geographic). Moreover, their lifespan in captivity is significantly shorter. In the wild, females live up to 50 to 100 years, while males live 30 to 50 years (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). In captivity, however, they rarely reach the age of 20.
These remarkable creatures are intelligent and social beings, known for their complex social structures called pods, which are disrupted when they are isolated or kept in unnatural groups in human care. Thus, by returning those orcas who are capable to their wild habitats, we can contribute to their physical health improvement and aid in reinstating their natural life, thereby reducing the associated risks that trainers often encounter.
We all have a responsibility to protect and minimize the harm done to these magnificent beings. Let's respect their rights and deeply inherent need to be in their natural setting. Please, support this cause and sign this petition urging to return all capable orcas to their ocean homes.
