In July 2023, we launched a public petition on Change.org to retract "Proximal Origins" and sent a formal letter, signed by dozens of STEM and STEM-policy professionals, to Dr. João Monteiro, the chief editor of Nature Medicine. After acknowledging receipt of the letter on August 1, 2023, Dr. Monteiro has remained silent. You can read the letter here.

In February 2024, a copy of the public petition, which had garnered over 5,000 signatures, was hand-delivered to Dr. Monteiro at the New York City office of Nature Medicine. Dr. Monteiro has remained silent.

In May 2024, a second request for editorial action, signed by STEM and STEM-policy professionals, was sent to Dr. Monteiro. This time, he did not even acknowledge receipt of the letter. You can read this letter here.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to removing Proximal Origins and any other misleading papers on the origin of COVID-19 from the scientific literature.
