You are receiving this update because you signed Biosafety Now!’s petition on Change.org: "Retract 'The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2' (a fraudulent paper on the origin of COVID-19)." 

As members of Biosafety Now!’s steering committee, we thank you for your support. We are delighted to announce that we crossed our 5,000 signature goal! 

In the next few weeks, we will hand-deliver the petition to the lower Manhattan office of Nature Medicine, the journal in which the “Proximal Origin” correspondence appeared. 

We have decided to carry out this action because for more than 160 days Nature Medicine’s editor has ignored our formal request to correct false and misleading assertions on the origins of the pandemic – assertions that we now know were doubted by several of the correspondence’s authors, both at the time of and following the correspondence’s publication (for more information, see here). 

Although this action is still in its planning phase, we are aiming for a small public gathering of 5-10 petition signatories who will make short public statements about the reason(s) they signed the petition. This group will contain some scientists, but also non-scientists with compelling views on the issue.

If you live in or around New York City and would like to be considered for inclusion in this event, please send a short email by Friday, January 19 with the following information to mgafford@biosafetynow.org:

1. Your name

2. Your interest in the Nature Medicine 'Proximal Origin' correspondence (and/or the origin of SARS-CoV-2)

3. Anything about your background (personal/professional) that connects you to this issue

4. A 5-10 sentence statement you would make at the event.

Again, you don't have to be a scientist to speak on this topic!
