Retire The Grumman LLV-Accelerate The Rollout of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles

The Issue

As someone who deeply values the safety and well-being of the working class, I am calling for an immediate acceleration in the deployment of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDVs) for all letter carriers across America. Day after day, these dedicated individuals work tirelessly to ensure our communication remains seamless, often braving adverse weather and difficult conditions. However, the vehicles they rely on are outdated and unsafe, devoid of modern safety features that are essential for their protection.

The current fleet of Grumman Long Life Vehicles (LLVs), despite their long-standing service, pose significant risks. They lack fundamental safety systems such as Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS), airbags, and even air conditioning—necessities for any driver in today’s world. The engines, notorious for stalling while in operation, endanger both the driver and surrounding pedestrians and motorists.

It's been acknowledged that the rollout of NGDVs will begin, but proposed timelines of 2028, 2027, or even late 2026 fail to recognize the urgency of this matter. Postal workers deserve to operate in safe and efficient vehicles yesterday, not several years down the road. The safety of those who serve our communities should not be postponed.

Introducing NGDVs with advanced safety measures must be prioritized for the immediate health and safety of the workforce. Airbags, ABS, and functional climate control systems are non-negotiable in this new age of technology. By modernizing the fleet, we are not only providing a safer work environment but positively impacting operational efficiency and reliability.

Postal workers are the backbone of our communication infrastructure and deserve the same standard of safety expected in any modern vehicle fleet. Legislative and postal service decision-makers must heed this call, leveraging all available resources to expedite the NGDV rollout beyond proposed timelines. Continuous delays are unacceptable when the risks are clear and the solutions available.

Join me in urging policymakers to prioritize the safety and efficiency of our postal workers by accelerating the transition to Next Generation Delivery Vehicles without further delay. Sign this petition to support a safer work environment for the working class who provide an indispensable service to us all.
